THE FIRST QUESTION WE USUALLY GET:

"WHAT ISSUES SHOULD I CONSIDER REGARDING MY INCENTIVE STOCK OPTIONS?"

Incentive Stock Options (ISOs) are a form of equity compensation, offering employees a share in the potential appreciation of a company’s value, with preferential tax treatment. Many of our clients have been (or will be) granted ISOs by their employer during their career. Deciding whether and when to exercise ISOs and sell shares can be difficult and requires cash flow analysis, complex tax planning, and a long-term strategy.

Our typical client is a Highly Compensated Employee (HCE) who makes over $130,000 in compensation and finally has the ability to save money but is being treated differently in their 401(k) rules. Retirement plans, HSA’s, deferred comp plans, stock options, eliminating debt, reducing taxes now & in retirement. It all takes planning. How do you put it all together? We will walk you through the maze of options and find the best fit for you. You have so many decisions to make on a daily basis and coming to a clear understanding of how to best utilize your numerous options can be challenging.

But why? ISO Vesting Schedules, Clawback Provisions, AMT Calculations, and Early Exercise options are not what you are thinking about when you are trying to decide what to have for dinner, how to get the kids to their next function and if you can ever exercise with your crazy schedule.

Can we work together virtually?

Absolutely. We are located in Ohio, but many of our clients live elsewhere such as South Carolina, Florida, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Just because you relocate for a job or personal reasons, we’d like to remain connected.

In fact, once the relationship is established, the majority of our interaction may be done over the phone, email, Your Financial Planning Portal and through videoconferences.

Do I need a minimum amount of assets to work with you?

It depends. For clients who choose the Ongoing Planning and Investment Package, we look for investable assets of at least $250,000. For clients who are unable to invest that amount, the Planning Package may be a better fit.

What is a fee-only advisor?

Fee-only advisors are financial planners that are Registered Investment Advisors (RIA) with a fiduciary responsibility to act in their clients' best interest. They do not accept any fees or compensation based on product sales, which leads to fewer conflicts of interest, and generally, they provide less biased advice. Gateway Financial, LLC is proud to be a fee-only advisor.

What is the fiduciary standard of care?

There are two standards that financial planners and advisers are held to, the fiduciary standard and the suitability standard. The fiduciary standard expects financial planners with putting their clients' best interest first. For instance, faced with two identical products but with different fees, the fiduciary standard would compel a financial advisor to recommend the one with the least cost to the client. We have signed a Fiduciary Oath for our clients.

Why is the company called Gateway Financial?

Life is full of challenges and we all need to meet them step by step; walk, crawl, and run, I call these “Gateways” to the next action. In the same way, we wanted to create a process-driven and workflow management based financial planning firm to ensure consistency and quality of advice. When we look at common Wealth Management Issues (WMIs) we review checklists and flowcharts for each issue.

What is wealth management?

Many people think it’s about monitoring your investments, but wealth management is actually much more. We work comprehensively with clients to help them find clarity with their long-term Wealth Management Issues (WMIs). An advisor who specializes in wealth management can help you with estate planning, budgeting and accounting, retirement planning, investments, and even tax.

What are Wealth Management Issues (WMIs)?
